Spotting Opportunities! Investing in Resilience, Health, Equity, and Sustainability

Sustainability practitioners have long faced arguments related to the “green premium.” Yet, as the world - and the climate - continue to change in increasingly frequent and severe ways, the low price of a code-compliant building does not properly account for the cost of increased risks and the value of new opportunities. Sustainability professionals are poised to advocate for greater resilience, health, equity and sustainability strategies, but they need the tools, arguments, and talking points to do so. This presentation will walk attendees through a “pro forma” commercial building. The presenters will highlight key issue spotting opportunities and explain the value-add of sustainability, resilience, health and equity strategies. Attendees will be challenged to flip the conversation from value engineering out these aspects, to defensibly explaining the true “cost of inaction” or, conversely, the benefit of integration.
