As with many other communities, there are thousands of military veterans living in Mecklenburg County. In today’s episode of If Buildings Could Talk, we share the story of the Veterans Transition Center created by the Carolinas-based nonprofit organization, Veterans Bridge Home. Designed to honor the service veterans have made to our country, the center also provides veterans with a place of community and support to ease their transition back into civilian life. We talk with Blake Bourne, the Executive Director of Veterans Bridge Home, as well as several partners – Michael Piper, military recruiting strategist with Lowe’s Home Improvement, Riley Fields Director of Community Relations for the Carolina Panthers and Ashley Hall, Little’s lead designer of the space – who helped bring the Veterans Transition Center to life. We also hear from Tyeasha VanBuren, a veteran and volunteer with Veterans Bridge Home who speaks about how the center has made a positive impact on her and her family.
